City reminds citizens: if you see a pothole, report a pothole

Pothole

CHEYENNE – Warmer yet fluctuating seasonal temperatures, with increased precipitation, is welcomed by most but also wreaks havoc on our roadways in the form of potholes.

This is caused by a freeze and thaw cycle that can create new potholes and enlarge existing ones. After moisture seeps into cracks, freezes, then melts again, it breaks down and is further damaged by vehicles driving over it.

“Don’t just keep driving over it, please call us and let us know it’s there,” said Vicki Nemecek, City Public Works Director during an interview regarding potholes. “Especially if it’s in a residential area because we have almost 500 miles of street in the city and we simply don’t have enough people to go around and find all of those potholes.”

Citizens are encouraged to report a pothole if they see one. Doing so alerts City staff of the issue and allows them to fill potholes. To report a pothole, follow these steps:

  • Visit www.cheyennecity.org
  • Click the teal colored button labeled “Report a Concern” located on the home page.
  • Click on “Pothole Repair” located under the Street and Alley section.
  • Sign-in using an existing account, Facebook/Yahoo account, or Proceed as Guest
  • Fill out form and click Submit.

In addition to reporting online, citizens are welcome to call 307-637-6263 or visit the Public Works Department in room 210 of the Municipal Building (2101 O’Neil Ave.). During this busy time for repairs, please be patient as crews work on multiple citizen reports.

The request tracker page not only allows citizens to report a pothole but report on several other matters in our community. Reporting issues through the Request Tracker helps City staff to not only be informed of issues in our growing community but to fix them or formulate a course of action. A direct link to the Request Tracker page can be found by clicking here.
