Watering landscapes
When can I water?
- Under the normal water schedule, water users can water on the days that are most convenient and efficient up to water 3 days per week.
- From May 1 to September 1, no watering between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
How long should I water?
Adjust your irrigation timer monthly. Gradually build up to the peak irrigation need of approximately 1.5 inches of water per week in July and August, or 1/2 inch per day when watering 3 times per week. Then, gradually decrease the irrigation amount each month until winter. How long do I water to apply 1/2 inches of water?
This depends on your sprinkler heads and pressures. A good rule of thumb is:
- 20 minutes for pop up heads.
- 40 minutes for rotating heads.
Suggested watering times per zone and by month in Cheyenne.
Remember, every yard and irrigation system is a little different, you may need to slightly increase or decrease the times below based on your landscapes exposure to sun, shade, or wind. You may also need to water in short, repeated bursts based on your landscape's slope or soils.Month | Fixed Spray Heads | Rotor Heads | Rotary Nozzles | Manual Sprinklers |
